Properties and Applications of Free Cutting SteelI. Three Categories of Titanium Alloys
α-type titanium alloy: Generally has moderate strength at room temperature, good at high temperatures, good for welding, and cannot be heat-treated for strengthening.
α+β-type titanium alloy: Has the strongest comprehensive performance and is the most widely used.
β-type titanium alloy: Has the highest strength, can be strengthened, good toughness, and has a high cost.
II. Common Grades & Properties & Applications
1) Pure Titanium (Industrial Pure Titanium)
TA1, TA2, TA3 (Chinese Standard)
Gr.1, Gr.2 (American Standard)
Characteristics: Good plasticity, excellent corrosion resistance, low strength
Applications:
Chemical equipment, heat exchangers, reaction vessels
Seawater desalination, marine pipe fittings, valves
Medical devices: Implant shells, orthopedic tools
Kitchenware, sports equipment, eyeglass frames
2) α-type titanium alloy
TA7 (Ti-5Al-2.5Sn)
High temperature stability, good welding
Applications: Low/medium temperature components for aircraft engines, missile shells
TA9 (Ti-0.2Pd), TA10 (Ti-0.3Mo-0.8Ni)
Extremely strong corrosion resistance
Applications: Strong corrosive conditions, chemical equipment, seawater environment
3) α+β dual-phase titanium alloy (Most mainstream)
TC4 (Ti-6Al-4V)
The most widely used titanium alloy globally
High strength, good toughness, heat-treatable
Applications:
Aerospace: fuselage structure, landing gear, engine blades
Military: rocket, satellite components
Medical: artificial joints, bone plates, dental implants
High-end sports equipment: bicycle frames, golf club heads, rackets
TC6 (Ti-6Al-1.5Cr-2.5Mo-0.5Fe-0.3Si)
Medium-high strength, heat-resistant
Applications: Aircraft engine discs, blades, fasteners
TC11 (Ti-6.5Al-3.5Mo-1.5Zr-0.3Si)
Excellent high-temperature performance
Applications: High-temperature components of aircraft engines, compressor discs
4) β-type titanium alloy (High strength and toughness)
TB3 (Ti-3Al-8V-6Cr-4Mo-4Zr)
Ultra-high strength, can be strengthened
Applications: High-strength aerospace structures, fasteners, springs
TB5 (Ti-15V-3Cr-3Sn-3Al)
Excellent cold forming
Applications: Aerospace thin-walled parts, honeycomb structures, ship components
