Annealing Treatment
Purpose: To reduce work hardening and residual stress while optimizing the grain structure. In some cases, it can also improve the material's low-temperature toughness.
Temperature Range: Typically between 870°C and 980°C.
Cooling Strategy: Cooling can be slow or fast, depending on specific application requirements. However, if the annealing temperature is too high, abnormal grain growth may occur, which can reduce the material's mechanical properties.
Solution Treatment
Purpose: This is a core process in Inconel 600 heat treatment, designed to eliminate strain hardening, restore the material's plasticity, and improve microstructural uniformity.
Temperature and Time: The solution treatment temperature ranges from 1150°C to 1200°C, with a holding time of 30 to 120 minutes.
Cooling Method: After treatment, the material should be rapidly quenched in water or air-cooled. This process dissolves carbides and other secondary phases into the matrix, reduces precipitate formation at grain boundaries, and enhances the material's resistance to intergranular corrosion.
Aging Treatment
Purpose: To further enhance the strength and hardness of Inconel 600.
Temperature and Time: The aging temperature is generally set between 600°C and 750°C, with a holding time of 8 to 24 hours. Through the nucleation and growth of precipitates (such as carbides and the γ′ phase), the material's creep resistance and high-temperature strength are significantly improved.
Key Considerations: The selection of aging time must take into account the impact of precipitate size and distribution on performance. Excessive aging may lead to precipitate coarsening, which can reduce material strength rather than enhance it.
