Hastelloy C-276 is a nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloy known for its excellent corrosion resistance.

Solution Treatment

Purpose:
To uniformly dissolve alloying elements into the matrix, enhance strength and corrosion resistance, and achieve a homogeneous microstructure.

Process:
The alloy is heated to a temperature between 1025°C and 1100°C and held for a specific duration, typically 1 to 2 hours, depending on the thickness and size of the workpiece. After soaking, it is rapidly cooled in water or other suitable quenching media to form a supersaturated solid solution structure.

 

Stress-Relief Annealing

Purpose:
To eliminate internal stresses generated during processing-such as welding or cold working-thereby improving dimensional stability and preventing stress corrosion cracking.

Process:
The workpiece is heated to a temperature range of 650°C to 815°C and held for 1 to 4 hours. It is then cooled slowly in the furnace or in air. This process effectively reduces residual stress without significantly affecting the alloy's mechanical properties or corrosion resistance.

 

Important Considerations

During the heat treatment of Hastelloy C-276, careful control of heating rate, soaking temperature and time, and cooling rate is essential to ensure the quality and performance of the alloy. Additionally, appropriate protective measures should be taken to prevent oxidation or contamination during the heat treatment process.
