S2 is an alloy tool steel, American grade.
S2 steel is on the basis of carbon tool steel to add other elements, such as chromium and molybdenum, so it has the advantages of wear resistance, heat resistance and high toughness. The carbon content of S2 steel is controlled between 0.65% and 0.7%, and silicon, manganese, phosphorus, sulfur, chromium and so on are added. Its hardenability, hardenability, wear resistance and toughness are higher than carbon tool steel, according to the use can be roughly divided into cutting tool, mold and measuring tool steel 3 categories.
s2 alloy steel and chromium vanadium steel difference
The main difference between S2 alloy steel and chromium vanadium steel is the interval value of hardness, vanadium molybdenum content and use.
1. The hardness interval value is different: the heat treatment hardness interval value of S2 steel is generally HRC58-62, while the heat treatment hardness interval value of chromium vanadium steel is generally HRC48-52. This indicates that the hardness of S2 steel is higher than that of chromium vanadium steel.
2. Vanadium and molybdenum content is different: the vanadium content and molybdenum content in S2 steel are higher than that in chromium vanadium steel. The increase of vanadium content can improve the toughness of the steel, while the increase of molybdenum content can improve the hardness and strength of the steel, so that S2 steel is better than chromium vanadium steel in strength and toughness.
3. Different uses: Although both can be used to make tools, due to the higher hardness and strength of S2 steel, it is more suitable for making tools with high hardness requirements, such as hex wrenches, screwdrivers and screw batches. Chromium vanadium steel has better corrosion resistance and is suitable for making tools that work in corrosive environments
